Short version: analytics, and nothing else. No newsletter, no comments, no accounts, nothing sold.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which stories people read. It sets cookies in your browser and collects your approximate location, your device and browser type, and which pages you viewed. It does not collect your name or your exact address, and Google Analytics anonymises IP addresses before storing them.

You can opt out for every site at once using Google’s browser add-on, or read how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

What this site does not do

• No mailing list, so no email addresses are collected
• No comments, so no names or IP addresses from readers
• No accounts, no logins, no paywall
• Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers

Fonts and images

The typefaces are served from this site rather than from Google’s font service, so reading a page does not disclose your visit to a third party.

Stories cite their sources, and some of those citations show a small thumbnail. Where the source is a social network, the thumbnail is stored on this site rather than loaded from the original host, so viewing a story does not tell that host you were here.

Server logs

Like every website, the server keeps short-lived access logs that include IP addresses. They are used to keep the site running and to deal with abuse.
