Lakewood bakery LaLa Custom Cake closes after 10 years

LaLa Custom Cake, a custom cake and cupcake bakery at 15301 Madison Avenue, closed on Saturday, August 29, after 10 years in Lakewood.

Owner Leah Gourlie opened the shop in August 2016. She had baked at home and sold cupcakes at local farmers markets before that, she wrote in the Lakewood Observer in 2022.

She announced the closing on the bakery’s Instagram account on July 30. Regular customers had been emailed first.

The shop had moved to pre-orders through its website after years of regular walk-in hours, and sold cupcakes over the counter for its last three days, August 27 to 29.

Gourlie did not say why she was closing. Her email told customers to expect “more about our story and next steps for the LaLa Family.”
